Sadaf Foods FAQs: What You’ve Always Wanted to Know

Sadaf Foods FAQs: What You’ve Always Wanted to Know - Sadaf.com

Who owns Sadaf Foods?

Sadaf Foods is proudly family-owned and operated. The company was founded in 1982 by two Iranian-American brothers who wanted to bring authentic Persian and Middle Eastern flavors to Los Angeles. Today, the business is still run by the founding family — now with the second generation stepping into leadership.

Is Sadaf family-owned?

Yes! From the very beginning, Sadaf has been a multi-generational family business. The founders’ wives worked alongside them from day one, and now their children are also involved in running the company. This family-first approach is what makes Sadaf unique — we treat our customers like an extension of our own family.

Where is Sadaf located?

Sadaf Foods is headquartered in Los Angeles, California — the city where our journey began over 40 years ago. While our roots are in LA’s Persian community, today our products are sold nationwide across all 50 states.

What does “Sadaf” mean?

In Farsi (Persian), “Sadaf” means seashell (صدف). It’s a symbol of beauty and something precious — much like the spices, herbs, teas, and ingredients we bring to your kitchen.

Is Sadaf only Persian food?

While our heart and heritage are Persian, Sadaf has grown to include over 1,200 products spanning Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and global cuisines. From saffron and rose water to Middle Eastern coffee and Mediterranean olives, our pantry is as diverse as the communities we serve.

Where can I buy Sadaf Foods products?

You can find Sadaf at:

  • Local Middle Eastern & international markets

  • Major grocery chains like Whole Foods, Sprouts, Jons, and 99 Ranch

  • Online at Sadaf.com

Does Sadaf give back to the community?

Yes — community is central to who we are. From food bank donations in Los Angeles to supporting cultural events and schools, Sadaf continues to give back to the communities that have supported us for over 40 years.

How many products does Sadaf have?

Sadaf started with just 17 products in 1982. Today, we proudly offer over 1,200 items across 35+ categories — including spices, teas, olives, pickles, rice, preserves, coffee, and more.

Is Sadaf halal or kosher certified?

Many of our products are kosher-certified, and many are halal as well. We recommend checking the packaging or product description on Sadaf.com for certification details.

What’s the most popular Sadaf product?

It’s hard to choose, but some fan favorites include:

  • Sadaf Special Blend Tea (with cardamom or without)

  • Saffron

  • Pickled Cucumbers

  • Sumac spice

  • Pomegranate Molasses

These items have become pantry staples for both traditional households and adventurous home cooks across the U.S.

Can I cook everyday meals with Sadaf ingredients?

Absolutely! While our products are rooted in Persian and Middle Eastern cuisine, they’re versatile enough to use in everyday cooking. For example:

  • Sprinkle sumac on salads instead of lemon

  • Add rose water to whipped cream or baked goods

  • Use pomegranate molasses as a glaze on chicken or veggies

Our pantry is designed to make authentic flavors approachable for every kitchen.

Does Sadaf have recipes?

Yes! We love sharing recipes that showcase our ingredients. Check out the Sadaf Blog for guides, recipes, and inspiration — from traditional Persian classics like ghormeh sabzi to modern takes like rose water chia pudding.

Where does Sadaf source its products from?

We carefully source our products from around the world to ensure authenticity and quality. Many of our ingredients come directly from the regions where they’ve been cultivated for centuries — like jams from Belgium, tea from Sri Lanka, and spices from the Middle East, Mediterranean, and South Asia.

Everything is then brought to our Los Angeles headquarters, where it’s packed, tested, and distributed with the same care we’ve had since 1982.
